"The Golf Engineering Club at the University of Washington was founded on the principle that the best way to learn as an engineer is through hands-on experience."
Our Origin
After meeting with a Head Engineer at TaylorMade, founder Will Hand with the help of founding members proposed an innovative approach: using AI-analyzed video footage to design and mill putters customized to individual players. Founded in Winter 2025 , the club quickly grew to roughly 15 members who spent Spring 2025 working in CAD to develop and 3D print putter prototypes.
In March 2025, discussions began between Sportsbox AI and UW Golf Engineering, culminating in an official partnership in October 2025.
Current Projects (2025-2026)
Software Development
Our software team is collaborating with Sportsbox AI to collect data and develop short-game (putting) analysis software that will advance golf teaching technology.
Putter Design & Manufacturing
Thanks to generous material donations from TaylorMade Golf, we're beginning the design process this year with the goal of milling custom putters before Spring 2026 for UW's Division I golf season.
Division I Partnership
We've established contact with UW's Golf Team head coach and will discuss potential partnerships and projects in late October 2025.
